The History of the Origin of Dice
The history of the origin of dice dates back to the ancient times. To come to know gods’ will ancient priests used various objects (animal bones, sticks) which they threw up and scattered on the ground. The will of ancient gods was determined according to the drawing formed out of these objects. This ritual gave way to fortune-telling known today. Tossing up dice is also considered to be the echo of the ancient cult.
There’s no doubt that dice first appeared in the East. They were brought to Europe by Arabic merchants and travelers. At the beginning of 18 century the game appeared in North America.
The Rules of Craps
A few words about Craps
Dicing (Craps) is a very simple and at the same time a bit frightening gambling for a beginner. If you haven’t ever played it and don’t know the game rules, a playing field with a great number of various boxes for stakes, some markers and the manner of the dealer to take away your stake, even if your number occurs - everything confuses an inexperienced player.
I was also such a beginner and I would make a few bets on the off-chance on the whole field without being aware of the rules or having an idea what each bet is meant for.
The Rules of Craps
Craps is the game which a lot of players at a time can take part in. Craps is played at a big gaming table with high sides with a pair of dice thrown by a leading player (Shooter). They use two dice in the game. The result of each throw is the combination of the dice occurred and the sum of the numbers from 2 to 12.
The game of Craps consists of two stages of throwing the dice. These stages are called Come Out Roll (the first throw in a round when they determine Point) and Point Roll (all the following throws after Point is determined).
Before playing they make bets on the winning (Pass Line) or on the loss (Don’t Pass Line) of the player throwing the dice. Some other stakes are also permissible, except for Come and Don’t Come. After that the first throw is made – Come Out Roll. After the first throw the following combinations are possible:
- Craps (the sum of the points is 2, 3, 12) – the bet Pass Line loses, the bet Don’t Pass Line wins 1:1 when 2 or 3 occurs; the bet is just returned to the player when 12 occurs.
- Natural (the sum of the points makes 7 or 11) – the bet Don’t Pass Line loses, the bet Pass Line wins 1:1.
- Point (the sum of the points makes 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 12) – in this case the number occurred is fixed, the number being called Point.
At the stage Point Roll the bets Pass Line and Don’t Pass Line are drawn by a scheme: the dice are thrown until 7 or Point occurs. If 7 occurs, the bet Pass Line loses and Don’t Pass Line wins. At both stages of the game the player can make various additional bets.
After the draw has been finished the game begins from the first round. The bets on Pass Line and Don’t Pass Line are admitted only before the first round. However, there are similar bets called Come and Don’t Come always admitted except for the first round.
